Genius Loci
Genius loci is a concept that dates back to classical Romanesque times, and can be translated as the “spirit of the place”; the term originally refers to the protective spirit of a place, an entity that appears in a place where human beings are present.
Thus, it is possible to speak of a phenomenon attributed to a given location which, through the action of Man, acquires specific, inimitable and immovable characteristics.
We are passionate about Trás-os-Montes, for its natural and built heritage.
Our mission is to encourage a (re)discovery of Trás-os-Montes through the design and construction of objects.
Aware that a place is built in the relationship between the territory and the people who inhabit it, Cut Out promotes, through its pieces and projects, curiosity, research and knowledge about Trás-os-Montes.
Thus, we design and manufacture pieces, based on the experimentation of space (the land, the landscape, the environment) and in the light of human complexity (physical, psychological, spiritual), capable of transmitting values, building life and perpetuating the identity of Tras- os-Montes.
We intend to cultivate the idea that praising the essence of Trás-os-Montes means, more than seeing what is invisible to the eyes, propagating the mystical manifestations that affirm and exalt the history that is inseparable from this place.
